Lake Guntersville Triathlon May 6, 2017

The swim courses for each event will all use the beach area at Lake Guntersville State Park. The Sprint, Olympic and Aquathlon will all use this same area.

The swim course will start at the beach at Lake Guntersville state Park. Athletes will start in wave starts from the docks and will swim parallel to the shore keeping the boueys to their left. The swim course will be rectangular in shape. For the Sprint Triathlon athletes will make one loop of the swim course. For the Olympic Triathlon, athletes will make two loops of the swim course. All athletes will enter the water on the floating dock and will exit the water on the beach before heading towards transition.

The Aquathlon will use the same swim course as the Olympic Triathlon and will enter and exit the water in the same manner as the triathletes.

THe water temperatures in this location will be in the upper 60's to low 70's for the race and this will most certainly be a WETSUIT LEGAL swim event.

The Olympic Triathlon bike course will be a 24.9 mile course that will leave transition and use the rolling park road and leave the Park. After leaving the Park cyclists will find a flat and fast course until the short climb at Montesano. After an out and back at Montesano, cyclist will bike back to traansition

The Sprint Triathlon will use the same transition as the Olympic Triathlon and the first 8 miles of the bike course. As with the Olympic Triathlon, cyclist will retrace the route back to the Park.

For the Olympic Triathlon the 6.2 mile run is completly within the Lake Guntersville State Park. The run begins in transition and uses the paved and gravel roads throughout the park. There is plenty of shade on the gravel sections. Make no mistake, the run course is challenging. The Sprint Triathlon triathletes will use the same run course for their 3.1 mile run.

Here is a map routre of the run. We have used Map My Ride because the route is on existing roads.

Follow this link for the 3.1 mile Sprint run course. Map My Run does not allow the creator of a map to use sidewalks or parking lots. The run route for both the Sprint and Olympic will use the sidewalk along the water on both the out and back portion of the run. Athletes will finish along the water next to the pavilion.
